The Roblox Lawsuit Says the Platform Failed to Protect Children From Predators and Families Are Suing

Roblox is an online gaming platform used by millions of children. Hundreds of families now say predators used it to find, groom and exploit minors, often moving the child to apps like Discord or Snapchat. Their cases are being handled together in a federal court in California, and a growing number of state attorneys general have sued as well.

Roblox denies the allegations and no court has found it liable. This page explains the claims, who may qualify, the case status and what to do next. It is general information and not legal advice.

If a child is in danger now, call 911. To report online exploitation, use the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org. Keep screenshots and messages and do not delete accounts, because that evidence can matter later.

What Is the Roblox Lawsuit About?

The plaintiffs are minors or their parents. According to the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation transfer order, they allege predators contacted and groomed children on Roblox, then moved them to a second platform, text messages or video calls, where some were pressured into sending explicit images. The claims include negligence, failure to warn, design defect, and fraudulent and negligent misrepresentation.

The Panel named Roblox, Discord, Snap and Meta among the defendants across the early cases. Common questions include what Roblox knew about predators, whether its safety statements were false, and whether effective age checks and parental controls were possible.

What Is the Status of the Roblox Lawsuit?

The Panel centralized the cases on December 12, 2025 as MDL 3166, In re Roblox Corporation Child Sexual Exploitation and Assault Litigation, before Judge Richard Seeborg. The first order covered 31 actions in twelve districts. Litigation trackers report roughly 196 pending cases in November 2026 and a hearing on motions to compel arbitration set for January 13, 2027. No bellwether trial date has been set in the MDL. Tracker figures change often, so confirm them on the docket.

Watch your deadline.
Every state sets a statute of limitations. For minors the clock is often paused until adulthood, but rules differ by state. Speak to a lawyer soon.

What Are the State Attorneys General Doing?

Separate from family cases, state attorneys general have filed suits under consumer protection laws. Trackers list Louisiana, Kentucky, Texas, Florida, Iowa, Tennessee, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Indiana and Arkansas among them, along with Los Angeles County. Several states are also reported to have reached settlements with Roblox, including Nevada, Alabama, West Virginia, Mississippi, South Dakota and Kansas. Those deals pay the state and require safety changes, so they do not pay individual families. Check each state attorney general’s site for the official terms.

How Much Is the Roblox Lawsuit Worth?

No one can say yet. There is no MDL settlement and no verdict, so any dollar figure online is a guess. Value in abuse cases usually depends on the harm to the child, the cost of therapy and treatment, the strength of the records and the defendants involved. Be careful with any firm that promises a payout.

What Should You Do Now?

  1. Make the child safe. Block the account, report it to Roblox and report it to the CyberTipline or police.
  2. Save evidence. Keep screenshots, usernames, chat logs, emails and receipts. Do not delete accounts.
  3. Get support. A pediatrician or licensed counselor can help the child, and records of care matter for a claim.
  4. Talk to a lawyer. Most injury lawyers work on contingency, so you pay only if there is a recovery. Read our guide on how to sue a company before you choose one.
  5. Ask about your deadline. Confirm which state law applies.

Roblox also faces separate claims about compulsive play. See our page on video game addiction lawsuits for that issue.
