If you received a notice about a data breach at a company called 700Credit and your first reaction was that you have never heard of them, you are in the majority.
The notice is real. 700Credit provides credit reporting and identity verification services to car, RV, powersports and marine dealerships. If you ever applied for vehicle financing, your information may have passed through their systems without you ever seeing their name.
That is exactly why so many people assume the notice is a scam and bin it.
The claim deadline is 22 September 2026, and the flat cash option takes minutes because it requires no documentation at all.

Why you got a notice from a company you have never used
This is the question driving most searches about this settlement, so it belongs at the top.
700Credit supplies credit reports, identity verification and fraud detection services to vehicle dealerships. When you apply for financing on a car, RV, motorbike or boat, the dealership runs your information through providers like this one.
You never signed up with them. You never saw their name. Your data was there anyway.
Per the official settlement site, the private information involved in the incident includes names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and other personally identifiable information stored within 700Credit’s systems.
Plaintiffs allege that on or about 25 October 2025, 700Credit identified that this information may have been compromised, accessed and exfiltrated. A consolidated class action complaint followed on 13 March 2026.
700Credit denies any wrongdoing or liability, and denies that the plaintiffs would prevail if the case were litigated. The court has not decided who is right.
Who qualifies
The class definition is short and clear.
The Settlement Class includes all living individuals residing in the United States who received notice of the Data Incident indicating their private information may have been affected.
Notices went out in July or August 2026, by email or postcard.
Excluded are directors and officers of 700Credit and its subsidiaries and affiliates, governmental entities, and the judge assigned to the case along with their immediate family and court staff.
If you are not sure whether you qualify
The official site’s own answer is direct: write to the Settlement Administrator at 700Credit Data Breach Litigation, Settlement Administrator, PO Box 4109, Portland, OR 97208-4109. You can also call 1-877-502-7785.
Do this now rather than in mid September. Post takes time, and the deadline does not move.
What you can claim
Three benefits, and one of them you already have.
Cash Payment B: flat cash, no documentation
A flat cash payment in the estimated amount of $50.00, with no documentation required.
This is what most people should take. It requires nothing beyond the claim form.
Cash Payment A: documented losses up to $2,500
Reasonable documentation showing you spent money or incurred losses related to the incident, up to $2,500 per class member.
The official site gives examples: bank fees, long distance phone charges, cell phone charges billed by the minute, data charges billed by data used, postage, petrol for local travel, and fees for credit reports, credit monitoring or other identity theft insurance products purchased before the claim deadline.
There is a safety net worth knowing about. If you claim documented losses but your documentation is insufficient, or the claim is invalid and you do not cure it, the administrator processes your claim as if you had elected the flat $50 instead. So attempting the documented route does not risk leaving you with nothing.
Credit monitoring: you already have the code
All settlement class members received an activation code for two years of credit monitoring in their notice.
The codes will not work until the judge approves the settlement. Check the official website after the 7 October hearing, and allow time for the order to be entered.
Lost your code? Write to the administrator at the Portland address above and ask for it to be reissued.
Given that Social Security numbers were reportedly involved, this benefit has real value independent of the cash.
Payments can move up or down
Your cash payment may be increased pro rata if valid claims do not use the whole net fund, or decreased pro rata if claims exceed it.
So $50 is an estimate, not a promise. Our guide to how class action payouts are calculated explains why participation drives the final figure.

The 8 September deadline most people will miss
Two deadlines, two weeks apart, doing different things.
8 September 2026 is the last day to opt out or object.
22 September 2026 is the last day to file a claim.
Opting out is the only way to keep the right to sue 700Credit separately, and the official site is specific about how: a mailed written request with your full name, mailing address, telephone number, email, your original handwritten signature, and a statement that you want to be excluded. You cannot opt out by phone or email, and third parties cannot opt out on your behalf in bulk.
Doing nothing is the worst option
The official site states it plainly. If you do nothing, you receive no benefits and you give up the right to start a lawsuit, continue one, or be part of any other lawsuit against the released parties about the issues this settlement resolves.
The release binds you either way. Filing is the only way to get something for it.
When will payments arrive?
No date exists. The official site says benefits will be provided after the settlement is approved and becomes final, and asks class members to be patient and check the website for updates.
The final approval hearing is 7 October 2026 at 2:00 p.m. before the Honorable Robert J. White at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. The site warns the date and time may change without further notice.
Payments follow approval and the resolution of any appeals. Realistically that means 2027.
What comes out of the fund
Class counsel will ask the court for attorneys’ fees of up to one third of the $17,500,000 fund plus costs, and service awards of up to $3,000 each for the class representatives. The court may award less.
Class counsel are Jeff Ostrow of Kopelowitz Ostrow P.A., Gary Klinger of Milberg PLLC, and E. Powell Miller of The Miller Law Firm, P.C.
700Credit settlement scams
A notice from an unfamiliar company is close to ideal conditions for fraud, because recipients cannot easily tell a real notice from a fake one.
- Any site other than 700creditdatabreachsettlement.com
- Any fee to file. Filing is free
- Any request for your full Social Security number, particularly cynical here since SSN exposure is the harm being compensated
- Unsolicited calls or texts claiming your payment is ready
- Anyone offering to file on your behalf for a share
The official site also warns clearly: do not telephone the court or the court’s clerk office about this notice. Contact the administrator instead.

Is the payment taxable?
It depends which option you take.
Documented loss reimbursement restores money you actually spent, which generally points away from taxable income.
The flat $50 is paid without proof of loss, which sits closer to statutory damages and is more likely taxable.
Credit monitoring is a service rather than cash and is not normally treated as taxable income to breach victims.
See our guide on whether settlement money is taxable, plus IRS guidance on tax implications of settlements and judgments and Publication 4345. At $50 the question is academic for most people.
What to do now
File before 22 September 2026. The flat cash option takes minutes.
Find your Unique ID and PIN. If you cannot, call 1-877-502-7785 today rather than in September.
Keep your credit monitoring code and activate it after the October hearing.
Consider a credit freeze regardless. With Social Security numbers reportedly involved, a freeze is free, permanent, and does more for you than $50.

Frequently asked questions
Who is 700Credit and why did they have my data?
700Credit provides credit reporting, identity verification and fraud detection services to car, RV, powersports and marine dealerships. If you applied for vehicle financing, the dealership likely ran your information through their systems. You would never have dealt with them directly, which is why the notice comes as a surprise.
Is the 700Credit settlement notice real?
Yes. It arises from In re 700Credit Data Security Litigation, Case No. 25-cv-13747, in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division, before the Honorable Robert J. White. The administrator is Epiq and the official website is 700creditdatabreachsettlement.com. Any other site presenting a 700Credit claim form, especially one charging a fee, is not part of the official process.
How much is the 700Credit settlement payment?
You choose between a flat cash payment estimated at $50 with no documentation, or reimbursement of documented losses up to $2,500. All class members also receive two years of credit monitoring. Payments may be adjusted up or down pro rata depending on how many valid claims are filed.
Can I still file a 700Credit claim?
Yes, until 22 September 2026. Online claims must be submitted by that date and paper claims postmarked by it. Note the separate earlier deadline of 8 September 2026 for opting out or objecting.
I lost my notice with the Unique ID and PIN. What do I do?
Call the settlement administrator on 1-877-502-7785 or write to 700Credit Data Breach Litigation, Settlement Administrator, PO Box 4109, Portland, OR 97208-4109. You need the Unique ID and PIN to file online, so recover them well before the deadline.
What was exposed in the 700Credit data breach?
Per the official settlement site, the private information involved includes names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and other personally identifiable information stored within 700Credit’s systems. The plaintiffs allege the incident was identified on or about 25 October 2025.
What happens if my documented loss claim is rejected?
Your claim is processed as if you had chosen the flat cash payment instead. Per the official site, if you do not submit reasonable documentation or your claim form is invalid and you do not cure it, the claim is converted to Cash Payment B rather than denied outright.
How do I activate the free credit monitoring?
Use the activation code included in your notice. The codes will not work until the judge approves the settlement, so check the official website after the 7 October 2026 hearing, allowing time for the order to be entered. If you cannot find your code, write to the administrator to have it reissued.
