Who Does the PayPal Class Action Lawsuit Affect?

It depends on the case. Honey browser extension users and creators, Venmo users whose data was allegedly tracked, and shoppers who paid with other methods at stores that accept PayPal are all named in different suits. Investors in PayPal stock are covered by separate securities cases.

What Could I Get From the PayPal Class Action Lawsuit?

Can I File a PayPal Class Action Lawsuit?

The cases define their classes differently, so whether you could be covered depends on whether you used Honey, Venmo or PayPal and how. No consumer class has been certified.

What Circumstances Might Be Relevant?

What Are the PayPal Lawsuits About?

In the Honey creators’ case, affiliate marketers say Honey swapped their affiliate IDs for PayPal’s, diverting commissions. A judge denied PayPal’s motion to dismiss on June 22, 2026, and a class certification motion was filed October 27, 2026. A UK shoppers’ case, Campbell v. Honey Science, says Honey misrepresented that it finds the best deals. It was dismissed in June 2026 and is on appeal to the Ninth Circuit.

The Venmo case, Borquez v. PayPal, was filed September 1, 2026. It alleges tracking tools from mParticle and Kochava received Venmo users’ names, contact details, payment amounts, notes and recipients, including for Private payments.

The PayPal fees case, Sabol v. PayPal Holdings, alleges that PayPal’s merchant rules stop stores from offering discounts for other payment methods, which raises prices for everyone. Settlement Insight reports that a related consumer anti steering case was dismissed in 2026, so check the docket before relying on it. Shareholder suits are a separate matter for people who owned PayPal stock.

Use Honey or Venmo?
You can act today without waiting for the court. Open your Venmo privacy settings, set past transactions to Private and review which apps can access your account. Then save your account history in case a claims process opens.

What Can PayPal, Venmo and Honey Users Do Right Now?

Because there is no settlement, the most useful steps limit what is shared and preserve evidence in case a class is certified.

  1. Review your Venmo privacy settings and limit who can see your payments.
  2. Save screenshots of your Honey account and any savings it showed you.
  3. Keep PayPal and Venmo transaction histories for the years you used them.
  4. Do not pay anyone who offers to register you for a PayPal settlement.
  5. Report scam emails to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

What Happens Next in the PayPal Cases?

The Honey creators’ case turns on the class certification ruling. The Venmo case is at the earliest stage, and PayPal will likely move to dismiss it. If claims survive, plaintiffs must win class certification before any classwide money is possible. That process usually takes a year or more.

Cases filed in the same federal district are sometimes combined. Follow other active cases in our list of open class action lawsuits.
